Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction the site Technical Manager, this position works independently or in conjunction with engineers, VSLs, GPLs, TPLs, production, and maintenance personnel to develop touchless automated solutions to support extrusion, printing, and converting processes including material handling and material flow.  This may include design, development and transitioning of new processes, modification of existing processes, cost improvement initiatives, material handling solutions, quality improvement projects, and project validation. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

•    Develops improved methods for delivering finished product to our customers
•    Identifies and serves project manager for cost improvement projects to remove costs from current and new operations through automated/touchless solutions
•    Serves as the technical lead for touchless automation projects
•    Interacts and oversees technical perspective of the daily production activities
•    Interacting with internal customers to assist with quality concerns and assists in identifying new or improved technology or methods for delivering defect free products to customers
•    Stays abreast of new automation technology in the polymer extrusion, converting, and material handling fields 
•    Builds professional network to collaborate with all levels within the organization
•    Identifies and implements automated manufacturing systems to improve profitability
•    Works with Global Engineering to implement solutions within the plant and assists in handing off projects from concept to full scale operation.

•    Has a broad understanding of scientific and engineering principles both within and outside area of specialty

Qualifications

TECHNICAL SKILL LEVEL
•    BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or relevant technical degree required
•    The position requires a high degree of scientific, engineering, technological expertise, and a good understanding in these fields.
•    Experience with varied manufacturing processes such as extrusion, printing, laminating, slitting, and converting.
•    Requires solid understanding of SPC
•    Requires ability to manage a project and process involving multiple manufacturing areas, plants, and across various portions of the business

 

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
•    Demonstrated ability to work independently or as a team and focus on KPI’s that determine success.  
•    Reaches rational technical conclusions based on theoretical and experimental considerations
•    Has completed new equipment installations and validation/commercialization of projects including IQ OQ PQ

 

EXPERIENCE:

•    Minimum five years prior experience 
•    Experience in plastics extrusion and converting process preferred
•    Experience with automated material handling equipment including AGV, ASRS, etc. 
•    Experience with SAP, MES, SQL
•    Demonstrated knowledge and use Six Sigma tools such as DMAIC, FMEA, VSM, SPC
•    Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision
•    Works effectively within a matrix managed organization

 

EDUCATION: 

•    Minimum BS/MS Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or relevant technical field.

 

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

•    Able to work independently and within a team, generating results with minimal guidance
•    Excellent written and verbal communication 
•    Must be flexible, innovative and comfortable in setting priorities
•    Polished presentation, business acumen and facilitation skills 
•    Green Belt certification or higher preferred
