Position Summary

Sealed Air is seeking a driven individual to focus on developing new products for the packaging industry. This individual should have the ability to understand packaging materials, packaging systems, industry standard test methods, and our customers’ operations. This individual must also be able to understand packaging materials interaction with the packaged consumer product. The qualified candidate will be responsible for using heightened curiosity to develop test plans, conduct fitness-for-use testing, communicate results and make expert recommendations on a path forward to customers, their team, and key stakeholders. In addition to the development of new packaging solutions, this role is tasked with supporting our business by training, troubleshooting, and communicating the performance of our solutions to both internal stakeholders and our customers. This individual will also be responsible for engaging with equipment and materials teams, field support, sales, customer service, and supply chain to ensure new and existing products continue to meet the high standards of Sealed Air Corporation.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Leverage chemical, mechanical, electrical or similar engineering expertise to provide key recommendations to existing innovation projects, generate novel ideas for new development machine projects, and lead final validation for machine and material innovation projects based on customer pain points
  • Travel consistently to key customers to fully understand their pain points and develop efficient and effective strategies to mitigate those customer pain points. This engineer will be assigned a geographic region to support as the key Applications Engineer
  • Possess strong self-motivation and independent work ethic
  • Evaluate new material and system designs through rigorous testing and an understanding of critical customer’s needs while working within a team environment to address real world problems.
  • Propose and implement strategic ideas that drive the enhancement of current product lines or the development of new product lines to drive increased profit based on a detailed understanding of materials, equipment, and customer operations.
  • Provide technical solutions to customers, external vendors, field representatives, and the broader Innovation & Development organization through on-site customer support and visits to other Sealed Air facilities.
  • Collect and share feedback from internal and external customers to influence decisions that drive profitable change within new and existing product offerings.
  • Develop, design, and conduct test plans and field trials that validate the reliability of the equipment, materials, and their interactions in order to provide the most robust solution to our customers.
  • Leverage feedback from internal and external customers to create and drive innovation towards commercialization
  • Conduct root-cause analysis to produce high-quality results and provide technical documentation that enables data driven business decisions.
  • Create customer intimacy by utilizing soft skills, sales skills, and influencing techniques to drive collaboration that speeds up the implementation and growth of Sealed Air’s solutions.
  • Lead technical teams to enable supply chain improvements to manufacturing processes and raw materials by quantifying the impact of these changes on the performance of the materials.
  • Create value-propositions and competitive intelligence for Sealed Air’s developmental solutions driving credible project definition and scoping documents.
  • Gather front end intelligence on our customer’s needs to drive the next innovations for Sealed Air.
  • Partner with the Materials & Process Engineering Team, the Sustainability Team, the Equipment Teams, Marketing, and Supply Chain to develop and transfer technologies regionally and globally.
  • Work effectively within a matrix managed organization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a science, engineering, or packaging discipline
  • Mechanical or electrical engineering degrees preferred
  • Master’s degree in a technical disciple is preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years professional experience
  • Strong self-motivation and problem solving initiatives to collaborate with teams located in different locations
  • Flexible travel domestically and internationally, at least 30%
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience creating data-driven reports to communicate technical ideas
  • Experience with data analysis and relevant program is desired
  • Ability to effectively present concepts and ideas
  • Experience managing multiple tasks, often with competing deadlines
  • Professional, highly-motivated, reliable, and solutions-orientated
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills and a work ethic that corresponds with Sealed Air’s core values.
