Job Description

In this co-op position, you will join a team of engineers to design industrial automation equipment from the ground up.  This co-op positions is heavily design focused but may also include testing in the lab, building prototypes, and hands-on development of new equipment.  Our machines run in some of the biggest food production facilities around the world.  As part of our global Innovation and Development (I&D) organization, we get to work on cutting edge technology and the newest and most exciting applications.

This co-op position requires working on site and remotely (hybrid) 40 hours per week. Occasional travel to local plants may be needed for assigned projects.  Position will be located at headquarters office in Charlotte, NC. Position will start early January and end early May, with potential to continue through summer based on performance and business needs

The co-op and internship program at Sealed Air provides students with challenging and impactful projects for their assigned business unit. Each co-op or intern is assigned a designated manager and mentor to assist throughout their experience. Interns and co-ops from multiple locations around the United States will share experiences and connect with each other throughout the semester.

Additionally, the program includes professional development and networking opportunities with our leaders and senior executive team, cohort activities, social events, and a final presentation of your projects to senior leaders.  The Co-Op program can include up to three rotations, either back to back or rotating semesters. This is determined by performance and availability of positions in locations.

Eligible benefits for our interns and co-ops: 

  • Interns and co-ops working over 30 hours per week are eligible to contribute to a 401K plan. 
  • Monthly housing stipend available for eligible candidates only 

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and modify engineering drawings new equipment development projects
  • Work with manufacturing to build prototypes and commercial equipment
  • Design of electrical schematics and assist in building of electrical panels
  • Modify and create PLC and HMI code for machine
  • Plan and conduct testing of new machines

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed at least 1.5 years towards a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university
  • A strong interest in design engineering
  • Solid understanding of 3 phase power and control electronics
  • Strong skill in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office products
  • Reliable transportation to the internship/co-op location
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week at assigned location
  • 3.0 or higher GPA

  • Strong academic record
  • Knowledgeable about general lab and electrical shop practices
  • Strong hands-on skills
  • A passion for prototyping and building hardware
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
