Position Summary
The successful candidate will report to the Executive Director, ERM & Corporate Insurance who oversees enterprise and insurance risk management. This position will be responsible for managing the day-to-day aspects of the corporate insurance function. Key responsibilities include managing the property/casualty insurance renewals, overseeing various loss prevention/reduction strategies, contract reviews and captive administration. The Manager, Corporate Insurance will be the internal point of contact for all insurance related inquires and will work closely with brokers, vendors, and internal functions (e.g. Legal, Supply Chain, HR, EH&S, etc.). The successful candidate will need strong time management skills and possess high attention to details while also demonstrating strategic and sound decision-making qualities to help reduce the Company’s total cost of risk.
Summary of Responsibilities
• Manage the day-to-day operations of the Company’s corporate insurance department and captive insurance company
• Manage global insurance renewals
o Set timelines, deliverables and strategy with brokers in advance of each insurance renewal
o Collect and analyze underwriting data and prepare renewal submissions
o Develop and co-present marketing submissions directly to underwriters
o Continuously review exposures of the Company and implement effective risk financing solutions (e.g. risk transfer, captive, retain, etc.)
o Review renewal documentation (e.g. quotes, binders, policies, invoices, etc.) for accuracy
o Process and validate all insurance related invoices
o Resolve accounting, premium payment and reimbursement discrepancies
o Prepare insurance budgets
• Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders on risk control strategies, particularly property risk (e.g., sprinkler protection)
o Drive closure on open recommendations/findings
o Attend fire protection inspections
o Assist internal stakeholders on process, implications and resources to reduce risk to operations, safety and insurance premiums
o Partner with EH&S on injury prevention strategies
• Assist with management of insurable claims
o Act as primary liaison between internal personnel and third-party claims management teams
o Manage claims throughout lifecycle from reporting to final settlement to optimize both cost effectiveness and timely closure
• Manage broker and third-party service provider relationships and drive accountability for service and deliverables
• Review insurance provisions within supplier and customer contracts
• Coordinate captive insurance company administrative activities and transactions
• Maintain Schedules of Insurance and create ad-hoc reporting for management (e.g., Total Cost of Risk, Budget, etc.)
• Identify variances to forecasted P&L based on claim development or insurance premiums and communicate those variances to management
• Automate, document and/or improve processes that bring value to the Company and/or stakeholders
• Explore new ways to optimize Company’s captive insurance company and lead implementation with relevant internal and external stakeholders
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in risk management, insurance and/or finance
• 3+ years of experience in insurance (property/casualty insurance) and risk management
• Proven ability to work across functions within a global organization, adapting to varied and changing requirements in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
• Solid proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
• Effective, clear and concise written and oral communication skills
• Sound judgment and strong decision-making skills
Preferred
• Experience in large companies with global operations
• ARM and/or CPCU designation
• Experience with the operations of a captive insurance company
