Position Summary

 

The GE Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the design, installation, and startup of process equipment in any of the global SEE manufacturing plants.  Making modifications, retrofits, and performing development work on the equipment is also in scope. Individuals in this role must also exhibit the ability to “see the big picture” and offer innovative ideas and creative solutions. This role is for intern hires with no professional experience. This is a growth position that can lead to even greater opportunities in the future.
 

 

Responsibilities

 

  • Develop and manage scope, budget, and schedules for small projects. 
  • Communicate and coordinate internal manufacturing resources, internal product development resources, external suppliers, and contractors to complete the project.
  • Apply technical skills to all facets of the project (equipment specification, equipment design, process equipment checkout/startup, etc.)
  • Provides creative and imaginative solutions to complex problems.
  • Routinely works with supervisor or other functional areas to define projects and participates in setting of project strategy, objectives, and methodology.
  • Draws on technical advancements inside and outside the company to design equipment and processes where little or no precedent exists.
  • Effectively evaluates new technology that could lead to new standards within the Engineering area.
  • Communicates regularly to share combined knowledge with engineers in other locations
  • Other assignments as required.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Demonstrated mechanical engineering skill via the SEE Intern program.
  • Must be able to work with a team of engineer(s) and designer(s) to identify potential issues, formulate, and implement solutions.
  • Ability and willingness to travel is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and focus on critical project parameters that determine success or failure.  
  • Demonstrated flexibility within a fast-paced, complex manufacturing environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with professional presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (or comparable major) required.
  • Requires ability to manage a project and process involving multiple manufacturing areas, plants, and across various portions of the business.
  • Strong analytical skills to effectively identify and resolve problems throughout the project including startup.
  • Strong skills with Microsoft Project software & MS Office products.
  • Strong design skills with 3D CAD (Solidworks preferred) and 2D (for layouts)
  • Experience with engineering tools such as Solidworks Composer, Matlab, FEA / CFD Simulation, DriveWorks, etc. a plus. 
  • Excellent understanding of electromechanical systems:  power transmission, servo motion applications, etc. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • PE license a plus.

 

Safety Requirements

 

  • Comply with all established facility safety rules and policies.  
  • Attend and participate in monthly safety meetings.   
  • Report unsafe conditions or injuries immediately.
  • Works around rotating equipment, hot polymers, and high noise environments.
  • Required to wear safety shoes as well as standard PPE as required by local rules.
  • Exposed to various chemicals throughout the SEE sites.
