Job Description
Sealed Air’s I&D department is looking for a Senior Materials Innovation Engineer to work in our Charlotte, NC campus. Overall role is to support the I&D mission which includes the development and delivery of innovative, sustainable, robust, and cost-effective product solutions in alignment with the Division Strategy. Responsibilities
- Responsible for contributing to the development of collaboration among project members
- Responsible for all aspects of formulation and process trials, communication with the appropriate operational personnel, and sharing results with management
- Responsible for developing safety protocols for equipment together with Lab personnel
- Scouts external technologies related to specific projects
- Responsible for being cognizant of and pursuing potential IP opportunities
- Responsible for being cognizant of and pursuing potential sustainability opportunities
- Accountable to project management through PPM, monthly reporting, and updated reports
- Responsible for transition of technology to the Development Teams
Qualifications
- BS or MS or PhD in Renewable/Biomaterials, Fiber & Paper Technology, Chemical Engineering, or Polymer/Materials Engineering
- Minimum 5 years of research and development experience in the biomaterials, polymers, fiber or paper processing. Especially, product development in the packaging industry using such materials is preferred.
Additional Qualifications
- Strong knowledge of biomaterials, fiber, paper and additives used in complex manufacturing processes
- Ability to rapidly become knowledgeable with new materials and processes is a plus
- Knowledge on end of life paths (composting, recycling) of plastics and paper process and sustainability understanding will be a plus
- Strong knowledge of structure-property relationships is a plus
- Creative at innovative combinations of various processing equipment
- Creative at identifying adjacent technologies and applying to Sealed Air markets
- Collaborative, seeks ideas and opportunities from others
- Innovative in linking new concepts to new opportunities
- Good judgment and decision making, able to recommend as to continuing an area of assessment
- Resourceful, pulls together the necessary tools, equipment and people, to get the job done
- Ability to execute independently in ambiguous research areas is a plus
