Job Description

 

Under the direction of the Director of Operations, the Manufacturing Engineer will provide our facility, PESC in Duncan, SC, with improving programs and business processes for continuous improvement in performance, efficiency, profitability, and quality in the production process. A fundamental task will be to support and influence change and provide the direction and guidance to ensure process improvement goals are met.   

 

Responsibilities

 

  • This position includes but is not limited to the following duties and responsibilities:
  • Improve manufacturing efficiencies and achieve part/product cost reductions
  • Improve material and product flow throughout the plant
  • Develop methods to reduce defects through poke-yoke
  • Complies with all safety programs.  Develops processes, tooling, and equipment that eliminates hazards and helps ensure all employees operate in a safe manner.
  • Installation / start-up of new equipment
  • Develop standard work instructions for operation of equipment
  • Stay abreast of new equipment / process developments in the field
  • Lead plant efforts in new products introductions
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing problems and identify solutions with data based decision making
  • Identify and implement new or improved methods of manufacturing to improve profitability
  • Work with quality department in addressing process issues that impact performance of products for our customers
  • Define operating conditions and procedures which maximize OEE and assembly efficiency of processes in plant
  • Conduct capability studies as necessary to define process stability and capability
  • Establish work plans necessary to accomplish goals, track and report progress in comparison to plans
  • Support plant workforce
  • Provide support on 2 shifts of operation
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in engineering
  • 2 to 4 years’ experience in manufacturing engineering 

 

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Proficiency in Lean Six Sigma desired 
  • Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision 
  • Ability to follow and give high regard to safety rules and housekeeping procedures
  • Knowledge of computer software, such as SAP, Microsoft 365, and other software as required 
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail and coordinate various activities simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, suppliers, and business contacts in a courteous and professional manner
  • Demonstrated experience with high mix, low volume operations
  • Prior experience in metal fabrication and assembly operations desired
  • Prior use of designed experiments, SPC or equivalent
  • Able to operate with considerable latitude
  • Able to work both independently and within a team, generating results with general/minimal guidance from management 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with professional presentation and negotiation skills
  • Firm understanding of team based self-directing principles
  • Must be flexible, innovative and comfortable in setting own priorities
  • Able to assimilate and understand new technologies (strong technical aptitude)
  • Polished presentation, business acumen and facilitation skills 
  • Strong organization and planning skills
  • Results oriented
  • Availability to travel as needed
