Job Description
Position Summary:
- Under the direction of the Plant Manager, this position works independently and in conjunction with management, maintenance personnel and hourly employees to develop solutions to extrusion converting processes and equipment.
- This process/plant engineer position includes troubleshooting current and new development products, design new or modified processes and support the validation of equipment upon installation, support modifications of existing processes/equipment, maintenance and optimization of process and facility equipment, supporting and leading safety/cost/sustainability improvement initiatives, quality improvement projects.
- The plant location has two production lines and accompanying facility and mechanical equipment. The plant production is in a clean room ISO class 7 environment and certified ISO 15378 with operational GMPs. This position would support the running and optimization of the site equipment and processes.
- Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Working independently or with others to develop improved methods for delivering finished product to our customers.
- Identifies and serves as the primary driver for cost improvement projects to remove costs from current and new operations.
- Serves as the primary technical lead for process and equipment improvement projects.
- Interacts and oversees from a technical perspective equipment modifications, upgrades, and new installations.
- Interacting with customers, T&I, Business Unit Leaders, and other Process Engineering functions, to assist with process issues, quality concerns and assists in identifying new or improved products or methods for delivering value-added products to customers.
- Stay abreast of new equipment / process developments in the Plastics Extrusion field.
- Communicate regularly to share combined knowledge with process engineers in other locations.
- Serves as an expert in troubleshoot manufacturing problems and identify solutions with data-based decision making.
- Identify and implement new/improved methods of manufacturing to improve profitability.
Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering required.
Requirements:
- 5-7 years of experience in Process Engineering
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with professional presentation and negotiation skills.
- Experience with varied manufacturing processes such as extrusion and converting.
- Knowledge of statistical techniques and tools, their use and interpretation
- Requires ability to manage a project and process involving multiple manufacturing areas, plants, and across various portions of the business.
- Has demonstrated ability to work independently and focus on critical project parameters that determine success of failure.
- Knowledge of statistics and DMAIC methodology preferred
- Designed experiments, Lean Six Sigma, SPC or equivalent experience preferred
- Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
- Experience with Allen Bradley PLCs, HMI and AC Drives is a plus.
