Position Summary

Under the direction of the Engineering Project Manager the primary role of the Process Electronics Specialist is to organize, manage and maintain all process-related control hardware and software, including maintenance of necessary spares to prevent significant failure that would interfere with production.

The position will work closely with electrical engineering to perform PLC programming changes and keep computer-related equipment operational and up to date.  Also responsible for training department electronic craft and equipping them with computerized equipment/software necessary to effectively troubleshoot and repair process equipment. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize, manage, and maintain all process-related control hardware/software for assigned area, including identification and replacement of obsolete systems to prevent catastrophic failures.
  • Utilize PLC theory and application, advanced electronics, and the ability to configure/program to make computerized control systems operational.
  • Discusses layout and assembly procedures and problems with Electrical Engineer and draws sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units.
  • Sets up standard test apparatus or devises test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production model.
  • Analyzes and interprets test data.
  • Writes technical reports and develops charts, graphs, and schematics to describe and illustrate system's operating characteristics, malfunctions, deviations from design specifications, and functional limitations.
  • Checks functioning of newly installed equipment to evaluate system performance under actual operating conditions.

Experience

  • Experience with Allen Bradley software programming suites, this includes but is not limited to RS Logix 5000, Studio 5000, and FactoryTalk View Studio a must
  • Problem Solving - Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; Gathers and analyzes information skillfully; Develops alternative solutions; Works well in group problem solving situations; Uses reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
  • Excellent oral & written communication skills
  • Practical knowledge of the use of basic electrical test equipment. i.e. Multi-meters, Megaohm meters and oscilloscopes.

Education

  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school with two years of related experience; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
