Supply Chain Director

Job Summary:

• The Supply Chain Director is responsible for the overall performance in Southern Africa Supply Chain, aligning the company strategy across all supply chain operations. 
• This position is accountable for various operations located in South Africa, including operational performance, financial performance, people management, development, continual improvement and innovation initiatives. 
• The role needs to ensure that the company strategy, goals and initiatives are cascaded down through the organization into the various areas of Supply Chain, whilst ensuring compliance with the company standards, policies and procedures.
   

Day to day Responsibilities:

• A broad understanding of all areas of management, including knowledge of finance, marketing and communication, strategic planning, human resources and information technology, knowledge of company law and other legislation (such as BCEA and other Labour Law).
• Proven track record in Supply Chain
• C-Level interaction experience.
• Proven track record of supporting multiple programmes in a production environment.
• People management skills including leadership, performance management, IR, people development and motivation.
• Communication & conflict management skills to successfully deal with all levels, age groups and cultures of people (internal and external). Ability to manage people in a unionized environment.
• Commercial & financial skills: Financial acumen and experience in adherence to budget, contract management and service level agreements.
• Problem solving skills to identify potential problems and put the necessary in place to resolve the problem. Important to be pro-active not re-active.
• Ability to drive strategies over multiple departments and business units.

Duties and Responsibilities of Role:

Strategy:

Develop strategic supply chain plans that reflect the long-term objectives and priorities of customers strategies.
Manage all risks with regards to services provided.
Ensure adequate operational planning and financial control systems.
Direct strategy towards profitable growth.

Operations:

Full accountability and leadership on all aspects of Supply Chain.
Accountable for all initiatives being implemented across Supply Chain, including potential new scope.
Compliance to company standards.
Unlocking of synergies within supply chain to improve competitiveness of solution.

Financial:

Overall accountability for Supply Chain part of P&L.
Thorough understanding and application of contract and service level agreements to achieve account stability and profitability.
Identify and support initiatives to further improvement account profitability.

Operational Performance:

Leading the operations teams to consistently achieve performance metric targets.
Driving a continuous improvement and lean culture, to deliver on client requirements.
Stakeholder management (Internal cross-silo and external).
Pro-actively manage client satisfaction, including dissatisfaction process, client complaints, damages etc to determine root cause and corrective actions.

People Management:

Build and maintain an effective management team.
Ensure effective resourcing in all Supply Chain departments to deliver the expected services.
Firm and consistent approach to ongoing performance measurement and management of team.
Coaching and mentoring of team to achieve client objectives.
Development and succession plans in place for all critical roles.
Drive training interventions to close skills gaps in operations.
 

Education, Experience, and Certifications:

• Tertiary qualification Supply Chain Management / Operations Management. Qualification in logistic is a plus.
• Post-Graduation Certificate- Advantageous

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Analytical thinker with interpersonal skills
• ERP experience (SAP experience is a plus)
• Strong communication skills and ability to inspire collaboration in team 
• High level of emotional intelligence and maturity to manage multiple levels of stakeholders' expectations within the client's environment.
