Assist Design to develop and design new custom packaging or modify existing designs to provide functional and cost-effective packaging solutions for AFP customers. Job requires attention to detail and completing work tasks.  Job requires the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. Employee must be able to work in a team environment. Job requires being reliable, responsible, and dependable, and fulfilling obligations.  Intermediate personal computer skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. 


1.    Confer with design team to provide assistance in design activities. Take direction from the team which may include tasks such as confer with production, sales and customers to establish and evaluate design concepts for packaging products. Assist with providing feedback regarding feasibility of design ideas, based on factors such as appearance, safety, function, serviceability, budget, production costs/methods.  Present designs and reports to customers for approval, and discuss need for modification.
2.    Fabricate or coordinate the fabrication of samples in wood, plastic, corrugated, or other materials using hand or power tools.  As instructed from the team, may need to modify and refine designs, using working samples, to conform with customer specifications, or production limitations. Analyze product failure data and laboratory test results in order to determine causes of problems and develop solutions and report results to design team.
3.    Research production specifications, costs, production materials and manufacturing methods, and provide cost estimates and itemized production requirements.  Recommend improvements to work methods or procedures.
4.    Use computer aided drafting or design (CAD) software for designing packaging systems or other engineering tasks.
5.    Prepare technical reports and related documentation.
1.    Read publications, attend showings, and study competing products and design styles to obtain perspective and generate design concepts.
2.    Participate in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and company goals.
4.    Comply with all safety policies, practices and procedures.  Report all unsafe activities to supervisor and/or Safety personnel.
5.    Perform other duties as assigned.


Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or one to two-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience required.  Requires proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record-keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc. Knowledge of computer aided design CAD software; computer aided manufacturing CAM software; data base user interface and query software; optical character reader OCR or scanning software; and graphics or photo imaging software.
