Job Description
The individual will work under the direction of the Technical Manager to take a creative, systems approach to investigate new process improvements to improve processes throughout our network. In addition, the co-op will work with Operations Leadership to improve the overall efficiency of our processes. The co-op student will work closely with Operations and Technical Leadership, independently, and in conjunction with other engineers, engineering managers, and production/maintenance personnel in analyzing and developing solutions.
Responsibilities
- Conduct trials, validate and qualify new process improvement projects
- Manage individual projects to determine overall impact of supply and cost position of proposed changes
- Coordinate trials with safety, operations, engineering, logistics, quality and scheduling to ensure transparency in validation
- Create standard work instructions for solutions to be rolled out throughout entire process to possibly include multiple locations
- Follow up and audit the implemented solutions to ensure compliance
- Potential areas of focus include: LEAN manufacturing, quality control, production and inventory control, ergonomics, machine design, control systems work, standardized work, and many other disciplines related to industry.
Qualifications
Education: Working towards a Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical or Polymer/Material Science Engineering or Supply Chain Management from an accredited college or university
Required Skills/Training:
- Demonstrate flexibility within a high-performance work environment and matrix managed organization
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with professional presentation and negotiation skills
- Ability to work with and evaluate varied manufacturing processes and materials
- Utilize statistical techniques and tools to solve problems
- Must demonstrate the ability to work independently and focus on critical project parameters that determine success or failure
- Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Solidworks preferred
- Ability to travel as needed between locations
Safety Requirements:
- Work around rotating equipment, hot polymers, and high noise environments
- Required to wear safety shoes as well as standard PPE
- Exposed to various chemicals throughout the site
- Comply with all established facility safety rules and policies
- Attend and participate in monthly safety meetings
- Report unsafe conditions or injuries immediately
