Job Description

This co-op position requires working on site 40 hours per week, 5 days per week. Occasional travel to local plants may be needed for assigned projects (reliable transportation a must). Position will be located at plant in Streetsboro, OH.  

The co-op and internship program at Sealed Air provides students with challenging and impactful projects for their assigned business unit. Each co-op or intern is assigned a designated manager and mentor to assist throughout their experience. Interns and co-ops from multiple locations around the United States will share experiences and connect with each other throughout the semester. Additionally, the program includes professional development and networking opportunities with our leaders and senior executive team, cohort activities, and a final presentation of your projects to senior leaders.

The Co-Op program can include up to three rotations, either back-to-back or rotating semesters. This is determined by performance and availability of positions in locations.


To support lead engineers in developing and testing control systems for automated bagging and inflation systems as part of the Engineering new product development team. Majority of work is in electronic laboratory environment with other engineers. 

  • Validate inter-board communication. Test to ensure commands are synchronized and there are no dropped packets. This involves utilization of open-source software to test and analyze communication collisions and protocol standards. May require researching best available open-sourced software analyzing tools.
  • Increase diagnostics commands for internal manufacturing printed circuit board assemblies (PCA’s). Design and develop single command with single response messaging from external PC to PCA. Develop Python software programs to utilize commands in a controlled test environment.
  • Develop custom PC boards to help test, develop and ensure quality of designs. Includes developing serial to parallel communication protocol to simulate discreet input/output signals.
  • Perform Linux software installations on Android tablet customizing vendor source code for required design application.
  • Use Linux software to optimize user interface resulting in globally recognizable splash screens and graphics making intuitive and user-friendly displays, maximizing graphics over text.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completed at least 1.5 years towards a bachelor's degree in Electrical, Computer, or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
  • 3.0 or higher GPA
  • Able to provide own transportation to the internship/co-op location


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and use of embedded controllers from work, curriculum or hobbies
  • Experience with hardware, debugging tools, oscilloscope and digital volt meter (DVM)
  • Knowledge of reading schematics, and data sheets, and microprocessor reference manuals
  • Independent and collaborative problem solving ability
  • Understanding of basic IP protocols and interfaces. RTOS coding techniques knowledge is a plus.
  • Experience in hands-on development and troubleshooting on embedded targets (especially Freescale/NXP ARM and Microchip PIC) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of programming in C, Node.js, Python and JavaScript preferred.
  • Familiarity with software configuration management tools and defect tracking tools (Especially SourceGear Vault, Git, and Redmine) is a plus.
  • Effective communication skills: 1-1 and written.
  • Works collaboratively with others
