Job Description

The New Product Engineering Leader is responsible for leading the NPE team in delivering new products while executing to the new product development process.  The leader is responsible for leading the NPD team to meet engineering specifications which are collaboratively established by the project stakeholders.  The leader in conjunction with the project manager drives the executables and deliverables of a project to complete on time and on budget to ensure Sealed Air’s competitive advantage in the market. This position is a hands-on role and provides day to day leadership to the team.  The NPD Leader is also responsible for contributing to the strategic business development initiatives.  The leader must be detailed with strong organizational skills and an ability to work with and through others. This role works in strong collaboration with product management, operations, project management and other engineering groups. Long Description

Strategy execution and business support:

  • Participate as an active member in the development of business strategy, growth plans, and new product development initiatives.
  • Supports product management while developing the product roadmap.
  • Incorporates new technologies rationally, during or in anticipation of, new product development programs to maintain and improve product effectiveness of function, cost, reliability and manufacturability.
  • Leads technology consideration and evaluations to determine qualification for intellectual property creation.
  • Determines staffing requirements to support strategic plan and future business demands.
  • Supports outsourcing programs and key procurement initiatives.
  • Maintain urgent response to field service to solve critical field reliability issues

 

Process Improvement:

  • Support continuous improvement of the new product development process as a priority.
  • Promote process changes to improve completion schedules and cost reductions in products and department expenses
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing continuous improvement initiatives
  • Qualifications:  Minimum knowledge, education, skills, abilities and work experience necessary to perform this role.

 

Long Description

Manage a team of electronic, software, mechanical and product support engineers that include these tasks:

  • Evaluate subordinates’ performance and communicate appropriate feedback.
  • Provide input for department budgets for salary and other compensation.
  • Create and monitor personal development plans to maximize each subordinates’ contribution and productivity.
  • Assists in department budgeting for resources, expenses and capital.
  • Responsible for the assigned human resources, including recruitment, training, performance evaluations, behavior coaching, terminations and salary adjustments.

 

Manage new product development team project execution:

  • Provides technical leadership and directs an innovative engineering organization that delivers high quality, cost effective, and state of the art packaging solutions.
  • Evaluates and decides on the best problem solving-solution to ensure the balance among time, cost, and quality objectives throughout the project.
  • Identify needs, create specifications, and negotiate features with product management
  • Establish: budgets for projects, product cost targets and determining resource and time requirements.
  • Responsible for meeting financial goals and budgets.
  • Establish priorities for utilization of engineering resources and distributes tasks accordingly.
  • Plan for future product design projects.
  • Coordinate projects with other line managers and project managers internal and external to Engineering.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master of Science (preferred) in an engineering discipline (ABET accredited university)
  • 10 years prior managerial experience leading a cross-discipline engineering team in machinery product development
  • Experience following a formalized phase-gate process with a record of “conception through production” accomplishments.
  • Strong problem-solving skills including identifying problems, potential problems, and developing solutions; Must be able to analyze complex data, situations and develop a range of solutions.
  • Experience in working with suppliers/partners.
  • Strong team player with the ability to engage and influence functional experts from a wide range of functional areas.
  • Thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, efficiently works under pressures, within deadlines or other time essential constraints.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to clearly and concisely communicate to all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated performance in the areas of leadership, change management and continuous improvement.
  • Strong work ethic and an ability to excel within a rapidly changing and growing organization.
