Position Summary

Manage the mechanical engineering group of the converting engineering team and drive accountability through key performance indicators developed by the team that support business and functional objectives.  Lead, teach, coach and develop direct reports.  Develop team members through effective performance management and effective utilization/implementation of individual development plans. Align team members to meet functional objectives while also providing excellent service. Develop and manage processes to produce high quality machine designs.  Refine and create efficiency in the change management process of record keeping and product line support. Implement Design quality standards and measurements related to engineering documentation accuracy including drawings and bills of material.   Lead the mechanical engineering group on converting machine design/build projects.  Drive implementation of process improvement projects and equipment upgrades in the converting plants. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage the mechanical engineering group of the converting engineering team and drive accountability through key performance indicators developed by the team that support business and functional objectives. Lead, teach, coach and develop direct reports. Develop team members through effective performance management and effective utilization/implementation of individual development plans.   • Develop and manage processes to produce high quality machine designs.  Implement design quality standards and measurements related to engineering documentation accuracy including drawings and bills of material.  Initiate methodology for continually improving documentation accuracy through collection of feedback from machine assembly and plants.
  • Lead the mechanical engineering group on converting machine design/build projects.  Implement standard practices for project management including design requirements collection, budget estimation, schedule setup and project status communication.  Provide guidance for task / project priority and track project progress.
  • Provide overall mechanical design direction and approval.  Solicits continuous feedback from project stakeholders through design reviews.  Contributes engineering design expertise through actual part design (producing drawings) and a drawing checker/approver.
  • Drive implementation of process improvement projects and equipment upgrades in the converting plants.  This could be leading/facilitating, supporting or assigning to team members. Provides recommendations and expertise of the team to lead or assist in guarding and safety related machine design initiatives.

Qualifications

  • BS Mechanical Engineering
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in complex machine design
  • 3-5 years managing direct reports (3-5 on staff), preferred
  • Proficient in 3D modeling software (Pro-E, SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
  • Proficient with engineering documentation control systems (ex. Windchill, Solidworks PDM / Vault)
  • Able to demonstrate project management experience
  • Effective communications: 1-1, group facilitation, presentation and written
  • Proficient MS Office Suite and ERP as it relates to associated documentation
  • Knowledge of six sigma and continuous improvement.  Experience with Lean a plus
  • Team player/positive approach – demonstrated ability to collaborate with others
