Job Summary

Be part of a team of electronic hardware engineers and coops to develop embedded control systems for machinery for the packaging industry.  Provide mentoring and guidance to the team members & drive collaboration across multiple teams. Responsible for investigating the latest emerging technologies and practically applying them to the packaging machine controls systems.  Key advisor to engineering management for risk vs. benefit decisions

Job Description

  • Interpret and develop high-level system specifications that fully define the embedded control systems for packaging machinery. This includes the use of state charts, system block diagrams and functional specifications to fully define the system.  Perform research and study of the latest technologies for proper application and implementation into packaging machines to keep our equipment on the leading edge.
  • Develop, design and integrate embedded control systems to meet system specifications for performance, cost and reliability. Perform engineering analysis, system architectures and hands-on evaluation to prove designs meet product objectives.  Lead the powering up and debugging of the embedded hardware for the control board designs. Perform and manage the design reviews for the embedded hardware.  Manage relationships with external Engineering design services.
  • Designs must meet international standards for safety, EMC, reliability, environmental stewardess, and risk mitigation.
  • Provide control system design expertise to cross-functional project teams and provide technical support to other engineering groups, other departments, vendors, and customers and coordinate the work of supporting engineering team members in accordance with project objectives.
  • Develop and direct test programs to demonstrate product concept feasibility and capability and to verify operation under environmental conditions.  Design validation may include development of custom test fixtures which can expand to manufacturing test.
  • Prepare, check and review design documentation for accuracy to uncover any errors and verify that the design as documented meets performance objectives.
  • Investigate alternate methods, design changes, and make recommendations that will reduce costs, improve quality and make the products more innovative.

Required Qualifications

  • BS Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years embedded systems hardware design.  
  • Experienced with embedded development over the full life cycle process 
  • Embedded systems for real time control
  • Digital and analog hardware design with computer simulation, rapid prototype, schematic capture, and printed circuit board layout.
  • Good awareness of PCB board layout techniques & layout software
  • Ability to interpret need and produce effective hardware specifications and hardware system diagrams.
  • Proven troubleshooting skills with embedded hardware
  • Hardware debugging tools: Oscilloscope, Logic Analyzer and DVM
  • Experience in hands-on development and troubleshooting on embedded targets (especially Freescale/NXP ARM and Microchip PIC)
  • Knowledge of reading schematics, and data sheets, and microprocessor reference manuals
  • Effective communication skills: 1-1, group and written.
  • Works collaboratively with others
  • Independent problem solving and design solution selection.
  • Ability to select technology for product development to establish performance, reliability, and cost of products.
  • Ability to provide consultation on other engineering projects.
  • Creativity and latitude are expected and relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
     

Additional Qualifications

  • Python and LabView programming
  • Test script programming with Lua controlling modern test equipment.
  • CPLD’s and FPGA’s
  • Familiarity with software defect tracking tools (Especially Redmine)
