Role Purpose

Develop and execute validation and verification processes to ensure product design specifications are met. This includes developing detailed test plans to verify that a product complies with applicable product, reliability, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and safety specifications as well as applicable regulatory requirements. If necessary, assist in the design of solutions working with others to modify the product as required to ensure compliance with design specifications and regulatory requirements. Develop test plans and procedures and integrate these into the document control system.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Develop and conduct test procedures on new or existing product designs, verifying that the product will meet applicable requirements and specifications.
  • Review new product designs for potential compliance issues with national or international agency requirements.
  • Identify international regulations relevant to APS machines for CE compliance.  This includes both electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) and safety requirements.  Initiate, design and oversee required testing to insure legal shipment of machines to the European market.  Integrate a review of these issues in the design cycle when evaluating and reviewing ECR's.
  • Develop, with manager, capital equipment plan for current future testing needs.
  • Select and manage test equipment suppliers.
  • Collaborate with departments in performing Risk Assessment necessary for each machine and resolve with others those areas found to be in violation of the machinery directive so that all machines meet the required standards.
  • Design and build test fixtures as necessary to test product performance against design and agency requirements. Such test fixtures may include mechanical, electronic and software aspects.
  • Develop and implement test plans for equipment to improve product quality and reduce costs.  In addition, perform the required tests and prepare test reports. Input all reports and required data in the Engineering Data Management System in a timely and complete manner.
  • Consistently look for process improvements and work effectively with others to implement.

Qualifications

  • BSME or BSEE or equivalent experience
  • Experience testing electro-mechanical equipment that includes complex microprocessor-based circuitry for compliance with design, reliability and regulatory agency requirements.
  • Experience with failure mode analysis and detailed data analysis.
  • Experience with production testing in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of national and international standards that apply to industrial equipment and the steps required to meet those standards.
  • Experience with the selection and procurement of test equipment, including the management of suppliers.
  • Experience in the selection of external test resources (consultants, laboratories, etc.).
  • Ability to design, assemble and operate test equipment and operate the products undergoing testing.
  • Ability to conduct tests independently or with the assistance of others.
  • Ability to work independently, a self-starter.
  • Demonstrated ability to write detailed test procedures and reports.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with other job functions, both internal and external to the company.
  • Team player, collaborative, solution focused, takes a positive approach.
  • Experience working with a document control system.
  • Previous experience in mechanical or electronic product design or programming a plus.
