Job Description

Responsible for ensuring that all products released from the site meet defined customer requirements. This shall be accomplished through the use of effective manufacturing methods with a focus on improving efficiency and reducing scrap. This role provides quality support to the bag production room with back up support to the lamination, extrusion, and tube departments in event of extenuating circumstances.

Responsibilities

•    Follow all Operating Procedures, including but not limited to:
o    Company and facility Policies
o    Safety LTCT; use of proper PPE; adherence to all applicable safety rules
o    Quality PQCT, Bag Specifications, Testing Frequencies and Procedures
o    SOPs – Methods for performing work
o    SSOP/Good Housekeeping standards (keep machines and area sanitized and clean)
o    Good Manufacturing Practices
o    Food/Safety Security
o    HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point)
o    Food Regulatory and Customer Spec
•    Accountable for ensuring that product testing is performed per the PQCT for specific bag type
•    Conduct the following checks;
o    Inspection of the machine on set up
o    Inspection of bags and all product coming off the machine- dimensions of bag, flange position, tap angle
o    Conduct hourly checks - specific checks and required random checks as and when required
o    Ensure the burst test is conducted with water in the bag to ensure quality
o    Ensure the required tensile test is conducted
o    Ensure that perforation checks are conducted
•    Perform product audits as needed to ensure on-going quality
•    Responsible for initial production signoff to ensure bags are made to specification and meet all quality requirements
•    Accountable for comprehending specifications and PQCT for various bag types
•    Ensure that quality product standards are upheld and that any suspect product is identified, held, and handled in accordance to established practices, including recording appropriate data in HOLD database and communicating status to Quality Coordinator and Shift Lead
•    Verify any “out of control” conditions and report to the Shift Lead; follow up with operator to ensure appropriate adjustments are made and conditions are back in control
•    Works as a valuable Team member to accomplish business goals and objectives:
o    Assist in verification of raw materials for bag production by ensuring that proper materials are used per bag specifications
o    Relieve inspectors/packers for breaks
o    Work together with all plant personnel to ensure that issues are being addressed to optimize production performance
o    Actively participate during DOE, Gage R&R, or other studies relating to process improvement as directed by Quality Coordinator
o    Participate in investigations and corrective actions for quality issues or customer complaints
o    Provide assistance on product retesting / re-inspection on Holds and Returns
•    To ensure the implementation and compliance to the relevant elements of the BRC
•    To assist with the preparation and annual BRC audit when required
•    Ensure Operations Procedures and/or other communications from Management are adhered to at all times & report Non-conformance’s thereof

Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge

•    Matric
•    Higher Certificate or Diploma in Quality – Advantageous
•    Minimum 2 years’ experience in a quality related role
•    Knowledge of the use of computer programs
•    Good computer skills with MS Office programs
