Job Description
Sealed Air has an immediate position available for a scientist on the Analytical Sciences team at Sealed Air’s Global headquarters in Charlotte, North Carolina. The Analytical Sciences group works with engineers and scientists within our Innovation and Development division (R&D) to develop new packaging solutions that are safe and sustainable. Analytical capabilities include chromatography, microscopy, spectroscopy, thermal analysis, rheology, and a wide array of physical property and permeation testing.
Responsibilities
- Aid in product development by performing analyses and developing new methods using physical property and permeation testing equipment. Testing might include optics, abuse resistance, seal/bond strength, coefficient of friction, gas permeation, tensile, elongation, modulus, tear resistance/propagation, shrink, density, and rheology.
- Become a subject matter expert in some of the tests described above. Collaborate with other R&D scientists and engineers to design test plans and coordinate physical testing and permeation. Review and approve completed results.
- Report results in the global LIMS system and maintain good recordkeeping.
- Aid in upkeep and maintenance of instruments described above.
- Learn and perform other testing as needed. Additional testing might utilize microscopy, spectroscopy, or microbiology.
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment; adhere to existing safety protocols and participate in department safety programs
- Partner with internal and external customers to assist in problem solving
Qualifications
- BS or MS in a science-related field or equivalent experience.
- Strong background in instrumental analysis, with experience performing testing in a safe laboratory environment. Preference given to those having experience with testing techniques mentioned above, but direct experience is not a requirement.
- Experienced in using standard computer software for word processing and spreadsheets
- Good English verbal and written communication skills
- The ability to work well independently, using good time management and prioritization skills
