Summary

We are seeking a creative Extrusion Systems Engineer to join our Innovation & Development team.  If you like designing new concepts, solving problems through teamwork, and seeing how your ideas impact the bottom line, you are a good fit for SEE.  In this role, you will interface with a team of Engineers, Technicians and Designers to develop new equipment and processes.  You will use your strong engineering design, modeling, and mechanical skills to build innovative designs that solve real world challenges for manufacturing of new customer products.  The ideal candidate has experience with polymer extrusion and equipment as well as designing and analyzing mechanical systems.  The preferred candidate has experience with Solidworks, 3D CAD modeling, ANSYS, and/or process simulation software, and enjoys tinkering with cutting edge advances in equipment design.  The engineer will lead large and small projects and will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the operation as well as the achievement of sustainability goals for the company.  We are SEE, the inventor of Bubble Wrap, and we will give you the opportunity to invent with us in ways that are rewarding, fulfilling, and fun.

 

Responsibilities

  • Work with Innovation & Development, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality organizations for development of new concepts and products.
  • Develop new equipment designs and processes for packaging products and execute designs from concept to production.
  • Model and build prototype parts and machines with 3D modeling software, including Solidworks and ANSYS.
  • Model and simulate manufacturing processes for plastic films.
  • Lead and conduct plant trials and applications tests on new designs.
  • Drive projects for new product and process developments that help the company increase sales, improve efficiencies, and promote sustainability.

 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Polymer, Chemical or Process Engineering, or related field required
  • Minimum of two years’ experience with an advanced degree and minimum of five years’ experience with a bachelor’s degrees. 
  • Engineering and design experience preferred which can be combined with relevant intern and co-op work.
  • SolidWorks or similar CAD experience
  • Hands on experience with manufacturing environments, equipment implementation and usage
  • Thorough understanding and use of principals, theories and concepts in mechanical engineering
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work well with teams
  • Desire and energy to work in a fast-paced agile environment
  • Previous experience with various design and modeling software, such as: Solidworks, SolidCAM, AutoCAD, Inventor or Catia, CompuPlast, ANSYS, Abaqus
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen to, interact and work with people of diverse social, academic, and technical backgrounds.
  • Some travel required (less than 15% and both domestic and international)
  • Must be authorized to work in the US

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Polymer Extrusion
  • Proficiency in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, CompuPlast, or ANSYS Finite Element Analysis tools (CFD)
  • Ability to visualize in 3D and experience with 3D CAD modeling of product concepts
  • Familiarity with DFMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly) in new product development
  • A strong desire to innovate and lead technical developments
  • Understanding of Finite Element Analysis (specifically Computational Fluid Dynamics)
  • Strong problem-solving skills
