Summary
The primary role of an Innovation & Development Technician is to manufacture experimental materials as designed by I&D engineers. I&D technicians are required to operate pilot scale manufacturing equipment, experimental processes, and are instrumental in new process startups; additionally, the ability to design, and implement modifications to existing processes is needed along with highly functioning mechanical skills. I&D technicians possess an ever-growing knowledge of raw materials that enables them to execute development projects effectively. A continuous learning mindset is expected. The technician role also requires collaboration with engineers to develop new materials and methods that translate into value for our customers. Additionally, technicians will interact with a variety of individuals throughout the company including manufacturing/development (globally), analytical, designers, marketing, purchasing, etc.
Responsibilities
Major responsibilities for this position will focus on:
• Accurately conduct experiments as designed by engineers. This includes equipment configuration, formulation manufacturing, sampling, data recording, and documenting trial observations.
• Collaborate/partner with engineers through sharing of process or materials knowledge; end use material performance; testing or regulatory requirements; and historical processing knowledge.
• Conduct job safely. Participate in safety meetings, Job Hazard Analysis, LOTO and Process Stewardship activity for new or modified equipment & processes. Participate with assigned safety team and maintain high level of housekeeping.
• Author or co-author standard operating procedures and train others to perform new tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
• High School diploma or equivalent
• Polymer extrusion experience
• Mechanical aptitude
• Proficient in basic computer skills and applications
• Ability to plan and organize work as well as shift priorities when needed
• Ability to meet technical challenges with creative and innovative solutions
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to perform well independently and in team environment
• Ability to understand and follow recommendations on SOPs or Safety Data Sheets
• Excellent problem-solving skills
• Travel to manufacturing plant
Preferred:
• Strong process knowledge/troubleshooting skills.
• Strong Interpersonal Skills
• Experience in laboratory operation
• Paper or related fiber manufacturing and downstream processes like coating and converting
