Position Summary

The primary duty of the Plant Engineer is to drive continuous improvement of the maintenance department in support of our Quality Management System and corporate objectives while insuring a safe working environment at the plant. The Plant Engineer will manage, re-establish/organize and enable a high performing maintenance staff with emphasis on process improvement programs designed to integrate the manufacturing processes for continuously improving performance, using the Lean Initiative as the change methodology, Process improvement work will include improving safety and environmental performance, reducing energy requirements, incremental production increases, and product efficiency improvements. Additionally, the Plant Engineer will engage with other plant and corporate entities to share and implement best practices oriented toward process improvements.

Job Description

  • Provides leadership to maintenance team which includes following Performance Management System, setting expectations that align to area’s business objectives and providing routine feedback on performance.
  • Monitors team performance and audit activities to ensure personnel are performing quality work, supporting a quality product and providing service to meet all Sealed Air’s goals.
  • Manages the PDCA process from cradle to grave to include problem statement, root cause analysis, and counter measure implementation.
  • Works with area improvement teams to identify, evaluate, and implement reliable improvement opportunities through changes to operating procedures, maintenance procedures, and equipment upgrades.
  • Develop, post, and communicate procedures/processes for their area that support the City of Industry Site Plant Maintenance Strategies.  
  • Own their area's development program which includes training, education, and hands-on experience.
  • Directs the maintenance team and provide expertise (training, standards).
  • Ensures that work is accomplished accurately and safely by the maintenance team (regular audits need to be performed by the Technical Manager).
  • Develop Proactive Maintenance Opportunities.
  • Own and update KPIs related to their MPG and drive behavior to improve performance. Ownership for standard documentation (PLC program, Drive program, HMI, equipment drawing, FMEAs).
  • Responsible for maintenance financials.
  • Responsible for maintenance safety.
  • Responsible for work place organization (WPO).
  • Apply basic functions of SAP to all aspect of Asset Management.
  • Benchmark sister plants regularly.
  • Set Stores Inventory classifications and stocking levels.
  • Encourage utilities cost reduction in the area (shutting off machine when not in use, turning of lamps...).
  • Provides reliability support, technology expertise, and best practices for design reviews, construction, operability, maintainability, and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 5-8 years of manufacturing experience.
  • Demonstrated safety commitment.
  • Positive interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Process and Instrumentation diagrams, electrical schematics, mechanical layout and design.
  • Positive work history with an ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Computer aptitude, to include proficiency in MS Office, to include Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio, and Project Management.
  • SolidWorks knowledge preferred.
  • SAP PM Experience preferred.
