Job Description

The entry-level Electrical Engineer works within a growing, multi-disciplinary group that develops innovative new electro-mechanical products.
Although providing the design of electrical systems for new products from concept to completion is the primary contribution of this position, the team collaborates broadly to achieve its goals.
This allows opportunities for all members to contribute to a wide range of development engineering roles including the conception of new approaches to problems, product definition, system-level and subsystem design, engineering testing and first product builds.

Electrical engineering tasks will also vary widely, possibly including new development of custom circuit boards (analog, digital with FPGA’s and microcontrollers), FPGA and microcontroller program design, industrial control cabinet design with motor controls, and PLC programming. Other tasks include specifying electrical systems for testing novel processes and prototype testing, the selection and evaluation of commercial components, and support of current products.
Sealed Air utilizes a structured and defined process with objective measurements and targets for technical position advancement.

Responsibilities

  • Works as a member of team that develops new products from concept to completion in a fast-paced environment with guidance by senior engineers and reporting to an engineering manager
  • It is expected that guidance and assistance from senior engineers will be necessary to complete some tasks as knowledge and skills grow
  • Projects are typically in the area of digitally controlled, automated production equipment targeted to realize novel processes
  • Collaborate with a variety of technical disciplines effectively to achieve project goals
  • Provide contributions to the completion of plans, schedules and cost estimation for assigned tasks
  • Assist in the generation of concepts and selection of components to achieve project requirements
  • Participate in vendor meetings to evaluate options to meet product requirements and schedule
  • Design of electrical subsystems to meet specifications using appropriate analysis (power supply and load analysis, power conductor sizing, motor sizing, thermal management for electronics, digital system timing analysis etc.)
  • Collaborate with the team to design industrial control systems and custom circuit boards leading to the creation of schematics
  • Complete custom FPGA, microcontroller and PLC software as required
  • Devise and execute component test plans and report results effectively
  • Contribute during system integration including hands-on assembly of components, diagnosis of problems, measurements and updates as needed
  • Provide content for the completion of product documentation packages
  • Support manufacturing department by answering questions during fabrication and troubleshooting during production startup and as needed later in the life of products
  • This is primarily an in-facility position due to the collaborative and hands-on nature of developing electrical systems that closely interact with machinery and other components
  • Less than 10% domestic or international travel required

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering with focus on classes pertinent to the listed job responsibilities or equivalent experience
    • Basic Electrical engineering of electrical and electronics systems
    • Industrial electrical design
    • Microcontroller, HDL, and PLC programming
