Job Description

The  Group Performance Leader (previously referred to as Production Supervisor) is responsible for the Plant Operations (Safety, Service, Quality, Cost and Productivity); and includes the planning and on-time execution of the production schedule, achieving Performance KPIs and Targets, addressing challenges affecting improved and sustained performance initiatives in all key areas, assigning resources as needed, as well as reporting performance and relevant issues into the daily integration /Tier meetings. The GPL champions the problem solving and continuous improvement process.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review Daily Performance.
  • Manage all aspects of the Performance Management System
  • Partner with the maintenance department to coordinate planned maintenance activities. The GPL will ensure the equipment is prepared prior to maintenance intervention as defined in the daily War Room.
  • Create the daily plan based on the output of the daily review, integration, and daily schedule meetings.  This allows the GPL and Team Performance Leader (TPL) to manage the key daily activities that need to be completed. 
  • Support problem solving activities related to safety, quality, service and performance on the shop floor.
  • When required, elevate problems to the Value Stream Leader (VSL).
  • Ensure that teams are completing routine assessments on team effectiveness.  The GPL will act as a “Coach for the Coaches” for the respective TPLs.
  • Responsible for administering disciplinary action, in conjunction with appropriate levels of management and HR.
  • Accountable for safety, quality, and productivity KPI’s in their area. The GPL and Maintenance leadership will partner to share joint accountability for improving and sustaining autonomous and preventative maintenance by the operators. 
  • Provide support for all continuous improvement efforts which include implementation of new standards, procedures, and improvements. Personally demonstrate and coach lean fundamentals with TPL (Team Performance Leader) and production team members. Specifically, Daily Gemba walks, conduct Behavior Based Safety Observations, Quality Behavior Observations, and lead Tier 2 meetings
  • Leads/Accountable for Plant Planning and Scheduling Operations.
  • Assists with Pay for Performance tracking and communication.
  • Lead the Department War Room, including Safety, Quality, Engineering, and Maintenance representation, and ensure that performance KPI’s are updated.  War room updates and performance KPI’s are critical for reporting the shift’s performance on a daily basis.
  • Assigns work to staff, provides coaching and training, sets goals, is accountable for performance evaluation, plans staff development, and makes and approves people management decisions either alone or in collaboration with management and HR (including recruitment, promotions, terminations, and compensation).

 

Internal Interaction Required With:

  • Shift TPLs
  • Production Operators
  • Support Personnel (i.e., Operations, Production Control, Training, Human Resources, Accounting/Finance, Quality, etc.) 

Manages:

  • Has full managerial responsibility: has direct reports, assigns work, provides coaching and training, sets goals, is accountable for performance evaluation, plans EE development, and makes and approves people management decisions either alone or in collaboration with management and HR (including recruitment, promotions, terminations and compensation).

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma/GDE; college degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant manufacturing experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience in a production environment, in a supervisory role.

 

Additional Qualifications:

  • BS degree in engineering or a technical degree is highly preferred
  • Green Belt Certification preferred
  • High degree of analysis, problem solving and creativity. Specifically 5-Why Improve
  • Able to work both independently and within a team, generating results with general/minimal guidance from management Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with professional presentation and negotiation skills
  • Must be flexible, innovative and comfortable in setting own priorities
  • Polished presentation, business acumen and facilitation skills
  • Good understanding of lean manufacturing principles
  • Experience with high volume operations 
  • Strong organization and planning skills
  • Change Agent Experience
  • Must be able to turn plant goals and objectives into an actionable and measurable plan.
  • Must believe that a clean organized work environment is a safer and more productive work environment.
  • Must be able to prioritize and organize requests from a project perspective. Must be able to multi-task.
  • Effective use of technology to accomplish objectives (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, e-mail, internet, SAP, Business Objects etc.).
  • Good financial acumen.
  • Approximately 75% of the day will be on the production floor coaching and mentoring - could sit for periods of up to 4 hours at a time. Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds occasionally
