Position Summary
The Ink Blender is a valued member of the Press setup and operating team. The Ink Room Attendant is responsible for the safe operation of available ink toning and storage equipment used to blend flexographic inks for the printing operations. In addition, the attendant is responsible for the timely completion of key tasks during press setup. General responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:
- preparing inks and solvents for press use,
- staging press supplies to minimize press downtime,
- assisting during press setup to minimize downtime,
- keeping press parts cleaned and available for all presses.
Qualifications Required

- SAP / SYM-PLE systems knowledge
- Excel (Preferred)
- Word processing skills
- Good oral and written skills
- Good interpersonal skills
- Successful completion of SEE E.A.T. program for ink blender
Responsibilities
Interpret production schedule and determine raw material needs for the printing press.
Communicate with print team and determine to ensure all inks are available for each order prior to setup start.
Clean and organize ink staging area press and return inks to ink room.
Maintain an inventory of ink toners from available ink vendors, blended inks, and solvents.
Return inks to inventory after use.
Clean and prepare used cavities for exchange in press.
Receive all toners into inventory in the Spec software. (Days)
Inventory blended inks for accuracy and to eliminate aged ink.
Maintain toners and extenders on dispenser.
Performs viscosity checks on incoming toners for all ink systems using established procedures and provides supervisor with information.
Check ink viscosity during color matching ink.
Dispense and flip inks to fill order requirements.
Performs drawdown tests using available equipment for color match verification on all solvent-based blended inks.
Blends inks according to established formulas and color matches to Cryovac color standard or Pantone Matching System.
Labels inks and solvents for accuracy in printing.
Stage blended inks for next orders in proper staging area.
Pumps waste solvent and ink (slop) to holding tank for disposal.
Maintains supply of clean recyclable rags in press and converting.
Empty the hazardous waste containers in the department. (Nights)
Empty the collection container on the vacuum system on press five.(Nights)
Prepares soiled rags for shipment and receives clean rags from vendor.(Nights)
Assists operators with ink toning.
Maintains good housekeeping in the ink room.
Maintain grounding on all containers.
Clean the mixing table daily.
Ensure cowboy containers are covered and properly labeled.
Ship and replace cowboy containers as needed.(Days)
Ensure all secondary containers are properly labeled.
Ensure dispenser is clean including hose tray, barrel lids, area around the dispense head and dispensing nozzles.
Keep all floors free from ink and debris
Cleans wash up tank and tray as needed.
Performs all tasks needed to insure a safe, clean ink blending and ink storage area is maintained.
Performs miscellaneous duties as directed by TPL or the operating team.
Clean parts washer tray.
Maintain solvent wash and rinse tanks on parts washer
Maintain operation of the ink distillation unit.
Ensure all waste from distillation is properly labeled and staged for pickup.
Clean filters on parts washer.
Maintain bag making inline inks and press black and white inks.
Ensure all pumps and mixers are operating during circulation cycle.
Clean anilox rolls using the PCMC anilox cleaner.
