Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:  
Under the direction of the Director of Operations, this position works independently or in conjunction with other engineers, value stream leader, production leads, and/or production, and maintenance personnel in analyzing and developing solutions to processes for in the direct support extrusion and converting processes. 
This includes design and development of new processes, modifications of existing processes, cost improvement initiatives, and quality improvement projects.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:  
Major responsibilities for this position will focus on:
•    Working independently or with others to develop improved methods for delivering finished products to our customers.
•    Identifies and serves as the primary driver for cost improvement projects to remove costs from current and new operations.
•    Serves as the primary technical lead for process and equipment improvement projects.
•    Interacts and oversees from a technical perspective equipment modifications, upgrades, and new installations.
•    Interacting with customers, T&I, Business Unit Leaders, and other Process Engineering functions, to assist with process issues, quality concerns and assists in identifying new or improved products or methods for delivering value-added products to customers.
•    Stay abreast of new equipment / process developments in the Plastics Extrusion field.
•    Communicate regularly to share combined knowledge with process engineers in other locations.
•    Serves as an expert in troubleshooting manufacturing problems and identify solutions with data-based decision making.
•    Develop work instructions and documentation to support standardized work in manufacturing.
•    Identify and implement new/improved methods of manufacturing to improve profitability.

Qualifications

•    Bachelor of Science in Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering Required.
•    5-7 years of experience in Process Engineering
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills along with professional presentation and negotiation skills.
•    Experience with varied manufacturing processes such as extrusion, printing, laminating, and converting.
•    Knowledge of statistical techniques and tools, their use and interpretation
•    Requires ability to manage a project and process involving multiple manufacturing areas.
•    Has demonstrated ability to work independently and focus on critical project parameters that determine success of failure. 
•    Knowledge of statistics and DMAIC methodology preferred.
•    Designed experiments, Lean Six Sigma, SPC or equivalent experience preferred.
•    Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

 

Safety Requirements:
•    Comply with all established facility safety rules and policies. 
•    Attend and participate in monthly safety meetings.  
•    Report unsafe conditions or injuries immediately.
•    Works around rotating equipment, hot polymers, and high noise environments.
•    Required to wear safety shoes as well as standard PPE.
•    Exposed to various chemicals throughout the site.
