Job Summary:

Reporting to the North America Manager Environment Health & Safety, the primary purpose of this position is to grow the culture within the North America Supply Chain and Commercial Organizations (Product Care, Food Care, etc.) to achieve world class EHS performance. The role will tactically deploy the strategy and safety vision for the assigned area of the organization, effectively executing against the strategy to elevate safety and environmental performance to world-class levels across the enterprise. This role will also be responsible for assisting with the development of the NA EHS team (plant EHS coordinators, managers), empowering the talent and developing skills needed to drive continuous improvement towards a world-class safety and environmental performance culture. 

Job Description

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Promoting a Zero Harm Safety Culture: Providing leadership and coaching to assigned area of the organization to create a workplace free of hazards, promote safe work behaviors and foster a culture that keeps the safety of our employees a business value.
  • Standards and Technical Guidance: Assisting the NA EHS team in the development, implementation, monitoring and continuous improvement of Environmental Health and Safety programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements. Tactically deploying tools and training to NA.
  • Audit Process: Participating in the EHS audit process to identify gaps and partner with locations to implement sustained improvements.  Leveraging the data and findings to implement true root cause corrective actions.   Leading efforts to minimize any legal regulatory activity from government authorities.
  • Training: Implementing training strategies and course curriculum to advance the knowledge of the assigned primary locations.
  • Risk Management: Partnering with plants to assess and manage risk by creating a risk matrix by location.  Conducting machine specific risk assessments in accordance with ISO 12100.  Work with plants and engineering resources to proactively manage progress and closure of associated risks.
  • Process Safety Management – Championing the process safety management program for North America.  Work with plants to conduct PHA, Audits, and share best practices.
  • Environmental Compliance: Providing oversight and guidance to ensure sites maintain compliance with environmental permits and regulations.  As necessary, communicate with regulatory agencies and support operations with EHS compliance related inspections. 
  • Project Management: Work with plants, facility managers and EHS leads to ensure regulatory compliance, and life safety risks are adequately managed for new capital investments. Effectively coach the implementation of change management.
  • Key Performance Indicators: Providing guidance, interpretation and verification of KPI’s.  Perform analysis of data to identify trends and set targets in alignment with Corporate Goals Partner with operations leadership to create and implement strategic improvement plans as necessary to drive systematic improvements.

Qualifications

Education, Experience & Formal Training/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university program in environmental , safety, industrial hygiene specialty or related field.
  • In lieu of a degree, management may elect to consider candidates with an equivalent combination of experience and professional training.
  • 5+ years’ of directly related work experience.
  • Prior experience leading teams of indirect resources is required.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), or Professional Engineer (PE) is a plus.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Working knowledge and experience leading change initiatives within a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA EPA regulations.
  • Working knowledge of Process Safety Management Standard.
  • Excellent thought leadership & influencing skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Experience leading teams and indirect resources.
  • Ability to prioritize and operate independently with a sense of urgency.
  • Ability to partner at all levels across the organization to achieve critical goals and improve operational efficiency.
  • Willing to travel up to 50% within assigned region.
