Job Description
Sealed Air is seeking a driven, manufacturing professional to fulfill our current opening, MECHANICAL SYSTEMS ENGINEER, located in Simpsonville, SC. The qualified candidate will be responsible for mechanical design project work from small parts to capital projects and operational startups. This position will be in a fast-paced environment offering daily support to our manufacturing teams. The ability to handle multiple projects, work independently and interact positively with all levels in the organization will be critical.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Machine and parts design using Solidworks
- Lead process improvements in the areas of safety, quality, productivity and cost through optimization and design of mechanical systems and components
- Manage small to medium size capital projects
- Lead the design, manufacture, installation and testing of machines and machine components
- Follow safety and engineering quality standards, methods, policies, and procedures
- Build and maintain a professional network within a matrix management organization
Qualifications
- BS Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years mechanical design experience preferred
- Solidworks proficiency is a must
- Strong working knowledge of mechanical systems and design including tools, machining, assembly, and welding. Hands on experience is a plus.
- Creativity to apply complex mechanical designs to practical applications
- Experience leading capital projects, planning and installation, including operational startup
- Solid troubleshooting skills
- Six Sigma certification and demonstrated knowledge of lean tools preferred including kaizen, FMEA, etc.
- Industry equipment design experience preferred including extrusion, packaging, pouch forming, conveying machinery and web handling.
- Experience in continuous process manufacturing a plus
- Some experience in machine shop and/or assembly environment
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a team
- Ability to manage a project workload while adhering to aggressive completion schedules
- SAP experience desired
- Strong analytical and technical background, along with good oral and written communication skills
