Job Description

Position Summary:

We have an immediate career opportunity for a Safety Engineer at our Simpsonville, SC manufacturing facility. Primary purpose of this position is to eliminate or control hazardous conditions resulting from human error, equipment and machine operations that may lead to human injury and/or property damage.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Developing and executing health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
  • Preparing and enforcing policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics.
  • Assist in identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of professional Safety knowledge, skill and abilities.
  • Apply knowledge of psychological and physiological factors to assist in the design of safety features and controls, compensating for the possibility of human errors in the operation of machinery and equipment.
  • Review plans and specifications for new machinery and equipment to make sure they meet safety requirements

  • Design, review, and evaluate modified equipment
  • Identify and correct potential hazards by inspecting facilities, machinery, and safety equipment
  • Assist in identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of professional engineering knowledge, skill and abilities.
  • May advise on structural safety requirements based on failure mode analysis of such factors as fatigue, stability, stress, concentration and creep; develop and apply methods for the safe installation of storage and piping systems; design protective equipment or safety devices for machines and redesign machines and plant equipment to eliminate occupational hazards; and/or review proposed occupational safety policies, guidelines and standards to determine their consistency with accepted engineering principles and practices and recommend technical changes as needed.

  • Design, review, and evaluate modified equipment

  • Evaluate the effectiveness of various industrial control mechanisms
  • Install safety devices on machinery or direct the installation of these devices
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations, and industrial processes
  • Investigate accidents and injuries to determine their causes and to determine whether the incidents could have been or can be prevented.
  • Recommend engineering solutions to issues that need improvement

  • Recognize, evaluate, and control the effects of chemical and physical agents related to the manufacturing process in order to keep employees from becoming sick or injured.
  • Advise ways of controlling potential threats to the safety of employees
  • Communicate plans and strategies across the business unit
Qualifications

Education:

  • BSc/BA in safety management or relevant field is preferred

Requirements:

  • Possess at least 5 to 8 years of experience in a Safety management role
  • Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
  • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Valid qualification in occupational health and safety
