Job Description

Job Overview
Sealed Air's Global Engineering group is seeking a strong Design and Project Engineering leader to join our Converting Engineering team. Use your strong engineering design, project management and your knowledge of manufacturing processes to improve equipment design and efficiency. You will be involved with large and small projects and will have the opportunity to make a significant impact on the operation.  Other responsibilities include:

  • You will manage the electrical design team and coordinate with other groups.  
  • Align team members to meet functional objectives while also providing excellent service. Develop and execute functional plan.  
  • Implement design quality standards and measurements related to engineering documentation accuracy including drawings and bills of material.  
  • Initiate methodology for continually improving documentation accuracy through collection of feedback from machine assembly team and plant maintenance.

 

Position Purpose
What does a Principal Electrical Engineer do?
•    The Principal Electrical Engineer in Sealed Air helps us execute capital investment projects across the globe by always driving our customer’s success by upgrading our manufacturing capabilities, providing creative manufacturing equipment solutions with your outstanding engineering skills, leading with your strong project management and mechanical design skills, building the best working environment, and partnering with diverse and multicultural teams to keep us as the best in the packaging industry.  Lead the Electrical engineering group on converting machine design/build projects.  Implement standard practices for project management including design requirements collection, budget estimation, schedule setup and project status communication.  Provide guidance for task / project priority and track project progress.
•    Provide overall Electrical design direction and approval.  Solicits continuous feedback from project stakeholders through design reviews.  Contributes engineering design expertise through design (producing drawings) as well as a drawing checker/approver.
•    Design and project engineering. Work with a cross functional team to develop scope, budget, and schedules and then execute projects to exceed customer expectations.
•    Must be able to collaborate with multi-discipline teams consisting of engineering, EH&S, management, internal customers, and suppliers to ensure solutions are cost effective and meet the desired design criteria.
•    Effectively communicate and coordinate with internal manufacturing resources, internal product development resources, external suppliers, and contractors to complete projects on time and budget.
•    Apply strong technical skills to all facets of the project to include planning and solution development, equipment specification, design, and startup.
•    Identify / evaluate new technologies that can be incorporated into the existing processes to improve yield, increase throughput, and/or reduce cost.
•    Communicate and document design intent
•    Develop contingency plans to ensure that there are ‘no surprises’ on projects.


 

Qualifications

•    Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
•    Minimum 7 years of experience with design and project engineering, and 4 years managing direct reports.
•    Strong preference for candidates that have a blend of mechanical and electrical engineering skills.
•    Strong working knowledge of HMI Software (GE Proficy and / or Rockwell RSViews), Allen Bradley PLC’s and VS Drives, Temperature Control Systems, and Industrial networks along with experience in Control System Design and tuning. 
•    Should have strong CAD design skills and experience with computer aided engineering tools such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Composer, Matlab, FEA / CFD Simulation, DriveWorks, etc. A PE license is a plus.
•    Proficient MS Office Suite and ERP as it relates to associated documentation
•    Work experience in manufacturing, plastic packaging or extrusion a plus•    Must have strong written and oral communication skills, a collaborative work style and ability to effectively work with an interdisciplinary team
