Job Description

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will join a group of highly motivated, energetic, and bright individuals with a wide variety of skillsets. The mission of our team is to conceptualize, develop, and commercialize converting machines that deliver value to our customers and support the growth of the global Sealed Air business. As a member of this team, you will work closely with fellow engineers, assemblers, procurement, and Manufacturing, to develop automation equipment and electro-mechanical assemblies. This role will enable you to see projects through all stages of the development process: project conceptualization, project planning, design, manufacturing, in-house testing, installation, and the development of supporting machine documentation. You will have the opportunity to expand your design skills and manufacturing knowledge, strengthen your business acumen and professional skillset, and grow as a technical leader.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop equipment specifications and initial solution concepts.
  • Responsible for being cognizant of and pursing potential IP opportunities.
  • Design and oversee the design of solutions from conceptualization through equipment manufacturing followed by company processes, safety, and OSHA standards.
  • Review and generate 3D CAD designs and 2D drawings.
  • Responsible to perform complex engineering calculations to choose commercial components like gears, motors, cylinder, servo, ball screws, linear rails, gear rack, rolls, sensors etc.
  • Process design change and redlines using company processes.
  • Responsible for communication with key stake holders to provide project status updates and design reviews.
  • Work with suppliers in sourcing and specifying equipment elements
  • Oversee the manufacture of equipment
  • Provide technical leadership throughout development and effectively interface with internal and external customers
     

Qualifications

 

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • Understanding of paper properties, additives used to modify paper properties, functionalized coatings, and paper coating processes.
  • Strong knowledge of fiber, paper, and additives used in paper manufacturing
  • 7+ years of relevant product and equipment development experience
  • Broad Technical knowledge and hands on experience in functional area(s)
  • Demonstrated ability to meet technical challenges with creative and innovative solution.
  • Exceptional problem solving and mechanical design abilities
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD Design (Creo/Solidworks experience preferred) 
  • Experienced in on-site installation and troubleshooting of equipment and systems
  • Demonstrated ability to provide a high level of customer service
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and within a team, generating results with general/minimal guidance from management
  • Technical project management experience
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a work ethic that corresponds with SEE’s core values
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products
