Develop and design PLC software for the control systems for packaging machinery. Responsible for PLC software design, coding, unit test, and system integration.  Develop system and functional specifications with the use of 
 software system diagrams and functional flow charts.  Investigate alternate methods, design changes, and make recommendations that will reduce costs, improve quality and make the products more innovative. Sustain current
  products with bug fixes, feature enhancements, and hardware obsolescence. Work with suppliers to facilitate customer reported  ZPL bug fixes.


•    Develop, design and integrate PLC software, using structured, modular design to meet system specifications for performance, cost and reliability. Perform engineering analysis, system architectures and hands-on evaluation to prove designs meet product objectives.  
•    Interpret and develop assigned system specification elements of control systems for packaging machinery.   This includes the use of state charts, system block diagrams and functional specifications to fully define the system.
•    Develop/direct test programs to demonstrate product concept feasibility capability, design stability and to verify operation meets design specifications.
•    Prepare, check, and review design documentation for accuracy, maintainability, and to verify design and documentation meets performance objectives.
•    Investigate alternate methods, design changes, and make recommendations that will reduce costs, improve quality and make the products more innovative.
•    Technical lead to work directly with customers to understand ZPL issues.  Work directly with suppliers to 
analyze/evaluate issues and facilitates to a solution including verification and validation of solution with in-house testing 
team. Release fix to field service to implement with customer. Follows-up with customer to ensure issue is resolved. 
Make revision changes in system. 
•    Serve as technical expert to Sales, Service and Custom Engineering regarding current product line software functionality and features. 
•    Some travel to customers (estimated 10%).


•    Required qualifications
-    BS Degree in Computer Engineering or Electrical Engineering
-    3+ years systems control systems PLC software design  
-    Proven experience in all phases of software engineering (requirements, design, implementation, testing)
-    Experience with software configuration management tools and defect tracking tools (especially Git, and Redmine)
-    Ability to write code for Rockwell and Beckoff PLCs and associated hardware including motor drives.
-    Experience with inter-process communication protocol design to interface system components (especially MessagePack-RPC and Modbus)
-    Working knowledge of ZPL emulators for printer support.
-    Ability to problem-solve independently and recommend design solutions to meet product performance, reliability, and cost objectives
-    Work with Custom Engineering utilizing experience and judgment to estimate project deliverables and accomplish goals 
-    Ability to provide consultation and design reviews on other engineering projects
-    Work collaboratively with others using effective communication skills: 1-1, group, and written. This includes internal resources, customers and suppliers.
-    Overnight travel estimated up to 10%

•    Desired but not required skills
-    Knowledge of the C and Python programming languages
-    Knowledge of model-view-controller architecture for user interface design
-    Implementing event driven solutions using with UML and finite state machines
-    Familiarity Robot Framework test automation framework
